Very few good things came out of the pandemic, but julie did. After exploding onto the scene with their wildly popular debut single ‘flutter’ in 2020, the Los Angeles band/art project inadvertently found themselves at the forefront of the new era of shoegaze around the world. In the four years since, julie have signed to major label Atlantic Records (home to artists like Charli xcx and 100gecs) and opened for artists like Alex G and Faye Webster. Combining the fuzzier parts of shoegaze with elements of grunge and post-punk, they stomp over genre and stylistic bounds on their heavy-hitting debut album my anti-aircraft friend. Multidisciplinary artists through and through, julie created every element of the record – music, artwork, videos, packaging, and even some of the instruments they play on stage.
