In 2014 Laneway was again loaded with breakout acts that straddled the line between fresh new faces and breakaway commercial success. Just a week after the line-up announcement in late September 2013, Kiwi teenager Lorde hit Number One in the states, Californian sisters HAIM landed in the Top 10 worldwide, while locally Vance Joy was months away from claiming the No. 1 spot in the triple J Hottest 100. Laneway again proved a fertile breeding ground for inter-band friendship, with Earl Sweatshirt, King Krule, Warpaint and Jaguar Ma taking time off on the Sydney leg of the event to collaborate on a track together.
Matthew Lazarus Hall: "With an amazing line-up, it really felt like the festival had come into its own and was not slowing down".
Danny Rogers: “If I looked back from day one to this event, I would note serious progression. Laneway’s reputation as a leading event worldwide was really apparent and the artists were so happy to be there. I felt like the previous 10 years of blood, sweat and tears had finally culminated in an event that was truly amazing on every level. We had achieved all of the things we'd hoped to do: improve services, improve sound at incredible sites, plus we had a team of people working with us that were so passionate about the show. I said to Jerome at the time, ‘This has become so much bigger than us. The people own this festival and we have a duty to deliver them something truly amazing.’”
- Haim (US): “Laneway was SO RAD!! I don’t want to leave #besttourever”
- Warpaint (US): “Goodbye Australia! Thank you Laneway Festival for the good times”
- Lorde (NZ): “Fremantle, thank you for a magical last Laneway”
