After forming for the sole purpose of opening for Australian band The Chats at a 2019 gig, fictional-turned-factual four-piece DARTZ have ridden the wave of unexpected musical success and become an iconic part of Wellington’s music scene. Since their inception, the punk rockers have stood alongside Kiwi musical greats at the 2021 Silver Scroll Award with ‘Bath Salts’, a catchy track about drug safety and listening to Dave Dobbyn. Their music has evolved into a unique and recognisably Kiwi sound, with their songs reflecting their real-life experiences - such as ‘40 Riddiford Street’, an ode to their Newtown flat, or ‘4:00 AM’, inspired by a night out. Alongside their musical endeavours, lead singer Danz is a comical cartoonist through Instagram account @yeehawtheboys, poking fun at current events and politics around Aotearoa. DARTZ’s long-awaited debut album will be released on November 4th, the perfect soundtrack to a summer filled with brews and bad decisions, before capping it off with a debut performance at Laneway 2023.
