The Very West Final Is Upon Us!

Each year, with our good friends at the Footscray Community Arts Centre, we run The Very West: a competition where local, unsigned artists from Melbourne's western suburbs are given the opportunity to kick start their career.

Designed to support emerging musicians, The Very West offers six shortlisted bands a seriously great prize: a mentorship at Footscray Community Arts Centre, an invitation to perform at Australia’s premiere international music showcase, Big Sound, and, last but not least, a slot on the Melbourne Laneway stage.

2011's The Very West winner, Baptism of Uzi (pictured above), went on to sign to a label and release their music internationally. The runner-up, Passport for Amy, meanwhile, went on to play support in a major national tour as a direct result of the program.

This Saturday 3rd December, six of the finest emerging bands from Melbourne's West will duke it out at Footscray Community Arts Centre in the final of this year's competition.

Out of a large number of applicants, an eclectic line-up has been selected to strut their stuff in front of industry experts, including representatives from APRA, music publishers, bookers and managers. The short-listed bands:

Drunk Mums

Granston Display

Madre Monte

Major Napier
