Sydney Laneway Wrap
Laneway returned to Sydney last Sunday for its sixth festival with a new layout and quite possibly, if we do say so ourselves, our best line-up yet.
Weather-wise, the sold out festival was a day of extremes, starting out seriously hot in the early afternoon, before the mercury dropped quickly and dramatically in the afternoon, leaving some heading to the merch tent in search of extra layers.
Thankfully, the festival's diverse line-up made sure the crowd were kept warm and happy, with Cloud Control, Two Door Cinema Club, Yeasayer, Holy Fuck, !!!, Deerhunter and the inimitable Les Savy Fav among the acts notching up memorable sets on the site's four stages.
The response from Sydney punters and media was hugely positive, with the AU Review calling the Sydney event 'without a doubt the best run, most consistently impressive and entertaining Laneway' they'd attended, 'full of the sort of consistently brilliant music that puts other festivals to shame'.
'The top-to-bottom completeness of this year's Laneway line-up will be hard to beat in future years,' The Vine's Marcus T wrote. 'Its roster of quality new bands coupled with on-the-cusp outright stars is veritably unmatched by any other festival. There's next to no filler...It also seems to breed a discerning music fan that's (largely) focussed on the music.'
Time Out Sydney, meanwhile, in a four-star review, cited Jenny and Johnny, Beach House, Menomena, Yeasayer and, of course, Les Savy Fav as the day's highlights, calling the festival 'a great day overall.' The Music Network agreed, calling the festival 'a great day of music'.
