Photos: Austin Or Bust: The Laneway SXSW Party
After the excellent time had by all at last year's inaugural SXSW day party, this year we teamed up with our friends at The Windish Agency, Eat Your Own Ears and Austinist to do it all again.
Our second annual Austin or Bust SXSW party featured a stellar line up, if we do say so ourselves, featuring 2012 festival favourites DZ Deathrays, Chairlift and Husky, rising Melbourne jangle-pop foursome Twerps, British polymath Dev Hynes' (Test Icicles, Lightspeed Champion) latest project, Blood Orange, London 'chop-pop' purveyor Clock Opera, Splendour-bound fellow Londoners Django Django, lo-fi disco-pop mastermind Adam Bainbridge, aka Kindness, and euphoric popsmiths Zulu Winter.
Festivities took place on two stages at the venerable Mohawk, one of our favourite Austin venues, and a great crowd was treated to some seriously fine performances, with standout sets from Chairlift, Husky and Django Django.
All in all, it was a super day of music, and we can't wait to do it all again next year! After some sleep.
Elsewhere at SXSW, there were highlights aplenty: the mighty Temper Trap, lifting the roof off at Stubbs in one of their first shows in quite a while, as they gear up for the May release of their much anticipated second lp; the screening of Natasha Pincus' clip for Gotye's world-beating Somebody I Used To Know; and stand out performances from Grimes, Purity Ring and Tanlines amongst many, many others.
Needless to say it was an amazing week, and we all need a good rest.
