Only One Week To Go Until Laneway's SXSW Party!

It's only a week now until 'Austin or Bust', our SXSW day party on March 16, and to say we're pretty excited about it would be an understatement of rather epic proportions.

The party is widely tipped to be one of the events of the festival, which runs from 11–20 and includes so many bands and speakers and happenings it makes you dizzy. We're putting the party together with the help of some wonderful and talented folk: North American booking agency The Windish Agency and independent UK promoter Eat Your Own Ears (both of whom you might already know from the stage they co-curated at Laneway this year) and the Austinist, Austin's best online publication.

The party line-up features some of the rising stars of 2011, including our own Cloud Control, who took out the AMP Prize last week, The Holidays and The Jezabels, and promises to be a thoroughly awesome day.

If you're in Austin, or within a 24 drive, we highly suggest you head along and check it out. Austin or Bust is all ages, free, and open to everyone, so be early!

CLOUD CONTROL is possibly the hottest act to come out of Australia right now, a fact recently affirmed when they recently took out the prestigious
Australian Music Prize. Building their name on early releases that showed a love of folky, laid-back summer rock, these Sydney natives make gorgeous
group harmonies, a blissful psyche-tinged sound and some stupendously great, soaring songs.

formed in 2009, when Dylan Baldi decided to drop out of college and pursue the lo-fi indie pop music he had created in his parents' basement, making power-pop with energy, precision and hooks. This Cleveland foursome provides excitement, emotion and teenage urgency in every groove.

L.A.'s FOSTER THE PEOPLE follow in the same outrageously catchy footsteps as MGMT or Phoenix, adding shuffling beats and whistles to boot. Their summery, sing-along choruses are worthy of their hero, Brian Wilson.

Ardently warm-hearted multi-instrumentalists GIVERS make joyous dream-pop, all whirling keys, Dixieland horns and Afro-pop drums combined with cracked tenor vocals, and a sensibility all set to appeal to fans of Flaming Lips or Vampire Weekend.

Another atmospheric electronic artist, JAMIE WOON comes all the way from the U.K. with ethereal, emotional music that doesn't fit squarely into R&B or techno. Still, the calming layers and openness of Woon's music is a refreshing antidote to a genre that can be frustratingly obtuse and close-circuited.

Hotly tipped Sydney quartet THE JEZABELS were one of the stand out acts at CMJ. Following their appearance in October, the global music community is falling over themselves to get a piece of the Sydney quartet fronted by magnetic singer Hayley Mary. Their driving, dark piano sound will round up some comparisons to The National, but of course you need to hear it for yourself to make sure that's apropos.

HANNI EL KHATIB is a singing, songwriting, multi-instrumentalist and all-round genius. With his sinewy guitar and wry, whiskey-glazed voice, Hanni creates a mix of bluesy garage-rock soul, dedicated personally to "anyone who's ever been shot or hit by a train."

HUW STEPHENS –– DJ SET  BBC Radio 1 DJ Huw has earned a loyal listenership for his long-running weekly show and is also the mastermind behind SWN festival in Cardiff. Expect a DJ set presenting "the best new unsigned, underground and under the radar music".

MOUNT KIMBLE christens the day's events with their open-ended take on dance and dubstep - deep enough for the genre's true believers, but inviting and warm enough for the rest of us to begin dipping in. The duo's Crooks & Lovers was one of last year's more inviting forays into all things loopy and trippy.

Purveyors of pulsing electro-punk, ROYAL BANGS first caught the world's attention at their dynamic performance at Lollapalooza 2010. Augmenting distorted guitars with wild glitches and bleeps to frenetic effect, this Knoxville five-piece is the one to watch for 2011.

THE HOLIDAYS formed at university in Sydney, and have since spent their musical career making bright, buoyant pop-rock. The Australian foursome of Simon Jones, Will Magnus, Alex Kortt and Andrew Kerridge describe their music as "dueling guitar and vocal melodies with upbeat rhythms. A mix of rough and sweet, happy and gloomy."

Originally hailing from the Dominican Republic, George Lewis –– aka TWIN SHADOW –– makes synth-led bedroom music that sounds simultaneously utterly new wave and thoroughly fresh. Beneath the prominent synth-string vamps on many of his tracks are weirdly quacking keys and chinking guitars, countering the apparent 80s aesthetic to result in music that is nostalgic and original all at once.
