Melbourne Laneway Wrap

After the biblical storms that preceded last year's Melbourne Laneway, the sight of clear skies last Saturday was a welcome one indeed for everyone that came to enjoy the 2012 Melbourne Laneway, the third in its new Footscray home.

It was a day of incredible performances, beginning with Very West winners Drunk Mums, and finishing with epic sets from M83, Washed Out and SBTRKT.

The Vine wrote that 'this year's event seemed the most enjoyable yet…the 2012 Laneway proved that it's now an essential, recurring destination on the calendar.'

The Vine singled out the performances of Austra ('A++'), Total Control ('vastly underrated') and The Horrors ('Thank goodness for The Horrors') for special praise.

Like pretty much everyone else who saw her, Mess & Noise were particularly taken with Anna Calvi.

'Calvi makes it feel like there were still things left to say with a guitar,' Doug Wallen wrote in their Melbourne review. '…The English newcomer goes to similarly exciting places with her voice even while inhabiting gloomy lyrics and bashing out riffs worthy of Pete Townshend. She takes flight over the course of the patient set, handily topping each song with the next.'

M83's epic set also came in for special mention, with Nick Argyriou writing, 'Uber-theatrical and anthem-charged, the M83 juggernaut saws through emotion like no other.'

The AU Review wrote that the festival boasted 'the best summer festival lineup of 2012', and that the day was 'a spectacularly fun party full of good vibes, beautiful people and quality bands.'

It was an awesome day, and we'd like to thank everyone that made it possible.
