Laneway Wraps For 2010
'Times may have changed at Laneway Festival, but the commitment to amazing acts, unique settings and an unbeatable atmosphere hasn't wavered one bit.' - Fasterlouder
'Awesome' - Mess and Noise
'Three stages of music woven throughout a scenic, tropical-colonial-getaway-meets-level-of-DOOM setting...Yes please.' - The Vine
'Laneway was an overwhelming success...pretty close to musical nirvana' - Sunday Mail
The Laneway Festival is over for another year and, dare we say it, was the best one yet. We are extremely proud that international artists the calibre of Florence + the Machine, The xx, Daniel Johnston, Mumford & Sons, the Black Lips, The Very Best and every other act on the bill were able to perform at this year's festival. We are just as proud that our local line-up (Sarah Blasko, The Middle East, Dappled Cities, Kid Sam, Eddy Current Suppression Ring etc etc etc) were every bit as classy. Each and every act put on a show-stopping performance and we couldn't be more grateful.
This year saw the event successfully move to the gorgeous locations of Footscray Community Arts Centre in Melbourne and the Sydney College of the Arts in Sydney, remaining in the unique sites of Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth. We launched in New Zealand for the first time, with over 5000 punters turning out to the sold out festival.
Holding an event in the middle of the city entails the support, generousity and commitment of an enormous amount of people, many of whom do not have any stake in the festival. Accordingly, we would like to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to the following people:
Brisbane City Council
City of Perth
Department of Culture and the Arts
East Perth Redevelopment Authority (EPRA)
Footscray Community Arts Centre
Fowler’s Live Team
Local residents and businesses
Maribyrnong City Council
Our commercial sponsors [Becks, Red Bull, Smirnoff, Mini Cooper, Puma, SAE]
Our media partners [triple j, Fasterlouder and Yen]
Right Angle Studio
Sydney College of the Arts (SCA)
And of course, our lovely, well-behaved, music-loving punters.
Check out our gallery full of pics here, amazing coverage from our friends at Fasterlouder here, as well as more great video footage here and here.
Please keep checking www.lanewayfestival.com.au for more reviews and photos as they come to hand.
Music-lovers: we encourage you to attend the SLAM (Save Live Australian Music) Rally at 4pm on Feb 23rd outside the State Library. S.L.A.M. is a non-politically aligned collective of music and music lovers fighting to preserve Melbourne's live music culture. Sweeping changes to liquor licensing laws in Victoria have had some unintended consequences for the local music scene, including the closure of key live music venues such as The Tote. If you're in Victoria, please march with us on Tuesday Feb 23rd. If not, you can still register your support at www.slamrally.org
We are already working on a killer line-up for 2011 and look forward to making next year's event better than ever,
See you next year,
The Laneway Festival
